Some common questions about Metronome
We are Metronome, a one-person design studio run by Micaela Jelsone. We specialize in brand strategy and identity, but our skill set spans a wide range of services, like packaging, website design, and creative campaigns.
Good question. Though Metronome is solely run by Micaela, we often collaborate with other creative professionals to serve our clients’ needs. Since we specialize in graphic design, we’ve built a network of illustrators, copywriters, motion designers, and developers that can fill in the gaps in our skill set. If your project requires something Micaela can’t do herself, she’ll call in one of these great folks.
The late designer Bob Gill said: “Defining a unique problem [will] define a unique solution.” Strategy is the art of finding a problem that needs solving. It lives in the intersection between business goals, audience psychology, and competitive context. It gives purpose to design decisions beyond “because I like it.” Brand identity is the visual expression of strategy.
When you hire us to design your brand, the first thing we do is put on our student hats and learn everything we can about your business, your industry, your audience, and you, the stakeholder. We’ve found we can learn a lot about a business by getting to know its people first. Before we ever open a new artboard, we start by defining—or even creating—a unique problem. Only then can we create a truly unique solution.
By keeping your audience and goals in mind, strategic design often results in more impact, more engagement, and more growth. It also gives your brand longevity and scalability, and ensures alignment across team members and decision makers both now and into the future.
Everything is wrapped in strategy. We don’t skip this phase. If you’re interested in learning more, we could talk about strategy all day—let’s schedule a meeting.
We avoid designing just a logo because a logo by itself does not a brand make. If a logo is a handshake, brand identity is a full conversation. In other words, a logo is only one small piece of your brand, and we’re experts in building complete systems.
Size doesn’t matter to us. Whether your brand is a startup or an enterprise, we’re interested in who you are and what drives you. We especially love working with purpose-led, people-first companies. If that sounds like you, we’d love to meet you. Send us an email.
